The last few days of August are here and I’m told Autumn begins within the week! We can’t complain August has been kind to the farmers although earlier in the year was a little challenging.
I’m hoping that there will be more wildlife visible from now on, the birds have nearly finished their moult and will be foraging on the abundance of food about ready for the winter, whatever that may bring. Our Hedgehogs are still visiting but I don’t think there are so many, it’s difficult to tell with the night camera except for size and spotting a male when the come by. I’m still feeding and it’s all gone by the morning then the juvenile Blackbirds wait for me to come home from my walk and expect Mealworms, they are quite tame now.
I’ve been hearing the Barn Owls at night and as we pass the Barn, there may be three in there, we can only hope. I was lucky to spot one out yesterday although it was still quite dark I managed to squeeze some images at a high ISO of it flying back to the barn. I never get complacent about seeing them it is always a thrill; I consider myself very lucky to see them.

I am also seeing more Roe deer in the mornings and I have to be careful when I let Kim off the lead they can pop out anywhere. There are always a few in the field near the Hammoon road, one morning in the early morning sun there were six. the picture below is a Buck with mum and a youngster lying down which I didn’t spot straight away.

There are still a few Jays around at Bere Marsh and I managed to spot this juvenile at the Burial ground they are usually very shy and soon disappear.
